Women's Basketball Defeat Lowcountry All-Stars In Exhibition Action CONWAY, S.C.- The Coastal Carolina University women’s basketball team came away with an exhibition victory over the Lowcountry All-Stars 65-54 Nov. 15, in Kimbel Arena. Senior Crystal Brown (Mineral Wells, W.Va./Parkersburg South) recorded a double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds, while senior Nikki Reddick (Hartsville, S.C./Hartsville) led all players with 19 points.
Coastal jumped out to a 6-0 lead, but the All-Stars took that back at 15:05 on a jumper by Maria Williams. A three-pointer by junior Courtney Brown (Chesapeake, Va./Western Branch) at 10:54 gave the Lady Chants a 15-13 lead and after four ties, the Lady Chants took the lead for good on sophomore Amber Rose’s (Baxter, Tenn./Upperman) jumper at 3:39. Reddick hit a 25-footer at the buzzer to give CCU a 34-28 halftime lead.
Coastal came out on fire in the start of the second half with a three by Reddick, a jumper by Crystal Brown and a layup by freshman Alisha Dill (Johnson City, Tenn./Science Hill) gave Coastal a 41-28 lead. The All-Stars managed to claw back to within 47-44 at 9:47 of the half, but a 9-0 run capped by a Reddick jumper gave Coastal a 14-point lead.
Rose was the third Lady Chant in double figures in scoring with 13 points. Reddick, Rose and senior Cyndie Troutman (Hampton, Tenn./Walters State CC) each had six rebounds.
The Lady Chants forced the All-Stars into 17 turnovers and 12 points off the miscues. Coastal also converted on 13 second-chance points.
Ces Champagne led the All-Stars with 16 points.
The Lady Chants start the regular season Friday, Nov. 21, against Anderson College. Game time is at 7 p.m., in Kimbel Arena.
