CONWAY, S.C.– The Coastal Carolina University volleyball team (16-9, 7-2 Big South) ended its home schedule in style with a three-game sweep of Birmingham-Southern College (12-11, 5-5 Big South) Nov. 2, in Conway, S.C. The Lady Chants were victorious by scores of 30-26, 31-29 and 30-22.

The Lady Chants hit .295 in game one as sophomore Katherine Jensen (Vancouver, B.C./Sentinel Secondary) had six kills and nine digs in the 30-26 win. Coastal jumped out to an early 6-2 lead but at 13-8, Birmingham-Southern went on a 7-0 run to grab a 15-13 lead. Coastal went on a three-point run at 18-all and led the rest of the way. BSC did cut a 28-21 lead to 28-26, but a Panther error and a Jensen kill ended the game.

There were 15 ties and 10 lead changes in the second game as two attack errors at 29-all gave the Lady Chants the win. The largest scoring margin in the game was four and that was 8-4 Coastal. Jensen had six kills in the second game, while freshman Alicia Meyers (Temecula, Calif./Temecula Valley) added four.

Coastal blew the third game wide open with a 15-0 run, led by the serving of sophomore Jennifer Hampton (Lake Forest, Calif./El Toro). When the run first started, the Panthers had a 10-7 lead, but BSC had nine attack errors and a bad set error to give Coastal a 22-10 lead. Meyers had five kills in the third game and freshman Kristin Rinne (Fountain Hills, Ariz./Fountain Hills) added six digs.

Jensen led all players with 16 kills and 16 digs. She also hit .316 for the match. Meyers added 11 kills and senior Sarah Bennett (Eagan, Minn./Eagan) had nine.

Rinne had 15 digs in the libero position and Hampton had 39 assists and 10 digs. Bennett, sophomore Krista Kimble (Lake Forest, Calif./El Toro) and freshman Laura Obert (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mother of Mercy) all had three total blocks.

Birmingham-Southern was led by Sarah Martin, who had 14 kills and eight digs. Rachel Malmborg also had nine kills and nine digs.

Coastal now begins a five-game stretch on the road to end the regular season. The Lady Chants travel to Radford, Va., to face Radford University Friday, Nov. 7, at 7 p.m.
