Box Score Women's Basketball Fall to Birmingham-Southern
CONWAY, S.C.- Despite Nikki Reddick's game-high 26 points, Coastal Carolina could not overcome a five-minute second half scoring lapse and fell to visiting Birmingham-Southern, 63-51, Feb. 22. With the loss, Coastal falls to 10-13 while the Panthers go to 14-10.
Birmingham-Southern led the entire way, though the first half was close throughout. Coastal kept it under double-digits the entire stanza and trailed at the half, 31-25.
Coastal came out in the second half on the attack and made the most of it, oing on a 10-0 run to start the second half and grabbing its first lead of the game at 35-31 with 16:06 to play. However, the Panthers held CCU scoreless over the next five minutes and took the lead for good, going on a 14-0 run of their own to lead 35-45. Coastal got it under double-digits twice more, but could not complete the comeback.
Shooting and domination in the paint tell the story of this game. BSC outshot the Lady Chanticleers 47.7 percent to 32.7 percent and outscored Coastal in the pain, 24-10. Birmingham-Southern was led by Candace Byrd with 15 points, while Lindsay Boyett and Ricka Spears added 12 and 11, respectively.
Coastal is next in action, Mon., Feb. 24, traveling to Chapel Hill, N.C. for a non-conference game with the No. 6-ranked North Carolina Tar Heels.
