MT. PLEASANT, SC — Brett Grandstrand's sacrifice fly scored Kyle
Beall to break a ninth inning tie lifting Coastal Carolina to a 5-3 win
over the College of Charleston in college baseball action before 404 at
Patriots Point Field Wednesday.

With the win, the Chanticleers improved to 29-11, while the Cougars
fell to 24-18.

Coastal loaded the bases with no outs in the ninth inning. Chad
Oxendine reached on a pop-fly single to start the frame when Cougar right
fielder Brett Anderson couldn't find his fly ball to shallow right. Beall
pinch ran for Oxendine and moved to third on walks to Adam Pernasilici
and Ryan McGraw to load the bases.

Grandstrand's game-winning fly ball to center was caught at the warning
track and gave the Chants a 4-3 lead. Brandon Powell's RBI single to
right scored Pernasilici for the final margin.

Charleston got a pair of RBI ground outs in the second inning to
take a 2-0 lead. Adam Tolman plated Matt Lauderdale with a bouncer to
first, and Victor Martinez's chopper to the right side scored Brett Spivey.
Trailing 3-2 in the seventh, Spivey homered for the second straight
game, this time a opposite field solo shot to left leading off the
inning, that tied the game at 3-3. It was his sixth of the season.

Brian Waack (4-1) was the winner blanking the Cougars over the final
2 1/3 innings of work. Andy Hutchings (1-2) suffered the loss in relief
for Charleston allowing two runs on two hits in 3 1/3 innings of work.

Coastal begins a three-game Big South series at Winthrop on Friday at 7:30.
