Box Score Baseball Falls to UNCA, 5-2
ASHEVILLE, NC — Brad Beck and Jake McConica combined on a four hitter, as the UNC Asheville baseball team defeated Coastal Carolina, 5-2, Saturday afternoon at McCormick Field. UNCA improves to 26-25, 12-8 in the Big South Conference, while Coastal falls to 40-15, 11-7 in the Big South.
Beck tossed eight innings, allowing two runs, while striking a career-high ten batters to picked his third win of the season. Seamus Donovan suffered the loss for the Chants, allowing three runs in 4.2 innings of work.
For the second straight game, Coastal would score a run in the opening frame. Ryan McGraw, who led off the game with an infield hit, scored on Tyler Hasbrouck’s single to right field.
Coastal would extend its lead to 2-0 in the fifth inning on a double by McGraw, scoring Adam Pernasilici all the way from first base.
UNCA would take the lead with three runs in the fifth inning. Grant Rembert would highlight the inning with a two-run blast to right center.
The Bulldogs would increase its lead to 5-2 in the sixth inning when McConica hit a two out single to right, plating Scott Stotlar and Robert Rudder.
Senior Brandon Powell broke another school record today in playing in his 231st game of his career, passing Luis Lopez, who held the previous mark with 230.
The final game of the three-game series will be on Sunday at 1 p.m. at McCormick Field.
