The Coastal Carolina University volleyball team (8-6, 1-2 Big South) earned their first conference win of the season on Friday night, Oct. 1st, over Radford University (2-10, 0-2 Big South) 30-20, 30-21, 30-26 in Radford, Va.
The Lady Chanticleers had two players with double figures in kills, in sophomore Alicia Meyers (Temecula, Calif/Temecula Valley) with 11 and sophomore Laura Obert (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mother of Mercy) getting ten kills. Obert also posted a season-high hitting percentage of .714 on her ten kills for the matches. Junior Jennifer Hampton (Lake Forest, Calif./El Toro) had 24 assists and a .455 hitting percentage on her six kills for CCU. Junior Krista Kimble (Lake Forest, Calif./El Toro) was the match leader with five total blocks. Sophomore Kristin Rinne ( Fountain Hills, Ariz./Fountain Hills) and junior Katherine Jensen (Vancouver, British Columbia/Sentinel Secondary (Ole Miss)) tied for the team lead, with Meyers, with eight digs each.
The Lady Chants outhit the Highlanders 43-36 in kills for the match, while posting a hitting percentage of .304. Coastal also outblocked RU 9-3 on the day.
CCU will play their second game of the weekend in Virginia, as they travel to Lynchburg, Va. to take on the Liberty Flames at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 2nd.
