Box Score Volleyball Sweeps Again, Downs UNC Wilmington, 3-0 More Information:
Junior Katherine Jensen (Vancouver, British Columbia/Sentinel Secondary (Ole Miss)) led the charge with 15 kills and .462 hitting percentage as Coastal Carolina volleyball (11-7, 3-3 Big South) swept its second consecutive match this time downing UNC Wilmington (2-13) ( 30-20 30-13, 30-22) in three games on Wednesday evening, Oct. 13, at Kimbel Arena.
Coastal took control early in the first game jumping out an 19-11 lead and held on for 30-20 win due in part to a scorching team hitting-percentage of .741. Jensen tallied seven kills in the first game with a .667 hitting percentage. Sophomore Laura Obert (Cincinnati, Ohio/ Mother Mercy) was smoldering in the first game with five kills and a perfect hitting percentage of 1.000. Fellow sophomore Alicia Meyers (Temecula, Calif./Temecula Valley) also had a perfect hitting percentage on her four kills.
The second game was all CCU as it again took control early, 19-7, and never looked back as it went on to a 30-13 victory. Junior setter Jennifer Hampton (Lake Forest, calif./El Toro) had a great game with eight assists and three kills on four attempts.
The Lady Chanticleers jumped all over the Seahawks early in game three, taking a 10-1 lead, as they coasted to 30-22 victory and sweep of UNCW. Jensen tallied five more kills in game three, to up her total to a game-high 15 with a hitting percentage of .462.
Besides Jensen other Chants of note include Obert, who tallied nine kills and .571 hitting percentage. Both Meyers and junior middle blocker Krista Kimble (Lake Forest, Calif./Temecula Valley) had seven kills and .636 hitting percentage. Hampton led both teams with 36 assists, while tallying five kills and .400 hitting percentage.
With so many Chants getting into the action only Jensen reach double figures in digs with 11. Leading the effort for Wilmington was freshman Martine Allison who had eight kills and junior Ashley Smith who had 25 assists.
For the match the Lady Chanticleers outhit the Lady Seahawks 49-27 in kills with an astonishing .466 hitting percentage.
CCU will next take the court on Saturday, Oct. 16, as it travels to Asheville, N.C. for a rematch with conference rival UNC Asheville. Asheville won an exciting five game match last weekend, Oct. 9, at Kimbel Arena.
