Box Score Women's Soccer Ties Samford 0-0 More Information:
The Coastal Carolina University women’s soccer team (6-8-2) and Samford University (8-5-1) battled to a 0-0 tie Oct. 22, in Birmingham, Ala. It was Coastal’s first scoreless tie since Oct. 2, 2002 and was its first non-defeat on the road this season.
Coastal had a 6-3 shot advantage in the first half, including five shots on goal. Sophomore Jaclyn Stoll (Fairfax Station, Va./Hayfield Secondary) had two first-half saves. Samford turned the tables in the second half with a 6-2 advantage, but again Stoll had two saves to keep the game scoreless. In the two overtime, the Bulldogs had five shots, two on goal, on the Lady Chants but the game ended in the scoreless deadlock.
Stoll had six saves on the night for her sixth shutout of the season, while Samford’s Crystal Royall stopped seven shots. The Bulldogs outshot the Lady Chanticleers 14-10 on the night and had a 6-2 corner-kick advantage. Junior Bobbie Parsons (Portugal Cove, Newfoundland/Prince of Wales) led the Lady Chants with five shots, two on goal.
The last scoreless tie was against Campbell during the 2002 season. The Lady Chants have five scoreless ties in their five-year history.
Samford currently is in first place in the Ohio Valley Conference with a 6-1 conference record.
Coastal stays in Birmingham for the rest of the weekend to face Big South foe Birmingham-Southern College Sunday, Oct. 24, at 2 p.m. EDT.
