Box Score Volleyball Sweeps High Point Away, 3-0 More Information:
Sophomore Laura Obert (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mother of Mercy) led a balanced attack with a game-high 12 kills as Coastal (14-8, 5-4 Big South) swept High Point University (14-12, 4-4 Big South) in three games (30-20, 30-18, 30-17) on Saturday afternoon at Kimble Arena.
The first game was all Coastal from the beginning, as it jumped out to 17-11 lead on the kill by Ashley Scheible (Westerville, Ohio/North) and would continue on its way to a 30-20 victory. Only one lead change occured the entire first game as CCU dominated with only a single attack error.
The second game was another outstanding performance by the Lady Chanticleers as it took a commanding 20-9 lead on a kill by junior Katherine Jensen (Vancouver, British Columbia/Sentinel Secondary (Ole Miss)). CCU would coast to a 30-18 win due in part to -.031 hitting percentage registered by High Point.
The story in game three was much the same as the first two, with the Chants jumping out to a big lead, 20-10 on a ball handling error and never allowing the Panthers the opportunity to get back in the game, as it won game three and the match, 30-17, for the sweep.
Obert was the only Lady Chanticleer to reach double figure in kills but two of her teammates, Jensen and Alicia Meyers (Temecula, Calif./Temecula Valley) each recorded nine kills. Jensen’s nine kills allowed her to move into eight-place on Coastal’s All-Time kill list. Obert had an astonishing hitting-percentage of .500 while also registering a match-high six blocks. Jensen and Jennifer Hampton (Lake Forest, Calif./El Toro) led Chants with 10 digs each. Hampton also registered a match-high 29 assists.
