Chants received votes in two national polls and named one publication's "Team of the Week"
CONWAY, SC – In just its second year of play, the Coastal Carolina football team, with its 6-1 overall mark, has made a national impact, earning votes in two major national polls. The Chanticleers also earned one web publication's "I-AA National Team of the Week" award.
Coastal received votes in both the ESPN/USA Today and The Sports Network I-AA weekly polls. If the polls continued through the list of those receiving votes, CCU would have been ranked 37th in the ESPN/USA Today poll, consisting of I-AA football coaches, with 10 points, while the Chanticleers would have ranked 33rd in The Sports Network poll with 33 points.
Coastal also was named the "I-AA National Team of the Week" by CollegeSportsReport.com for their 33-6 victory over Big South rival Liberty this past Saturday. The web publication covers all I-AA conferences and has weekly awards for the top team and performer of the week in each conference, as well as national team and individual awards.
Coastal Carolina travels to two-time defending Big South Conference champion Gardner-Webb, Sat., Oct. 30, for a 1:30 p.m. kickoff. The Chanticleers enter the contest with a league-best 6-1 mark and 2-0 in Big South play, while the Bulldogs enter at 3-4 and 1-1 in the league.
