Box Score Women's Soccer Falls to Radford 5-2 More Information:
The Coastal Carolina University women's soccer team (5-7-1, 1-2-1 Big South) fell to Radford University (8-3, 3-0 Big South) 5-2 Oct. 9 in Radford, Va.
Radford scored two goals in the first half as Sarah Rutherford scored in the 23rd minute off an assist from Nikki Porter and Brianna Kipper had an unassisted goal in the 34th minute. The Highlanders and Lady Chants both had four shots in the first period and Radford goalie Tara Oleartchick had two saves. Sophomore Jaclyn Stoll (Fairfax Station, Va./Hayfield Secondary) had one save for Coastal.
There was a flurry of goals in the last 17 minutes of the game. Porter scored her eighth and ninth goals of the year at 73:51 and 76:48, giving Radford a 4-0 lead. Freshman Emily McColl (Wellington, New Zealand/Hutt Valley) then scored her first career goal at Coastal, unassisted at 84:49. Radford made it 5-1 on an unassisted goal from Lisa Channon at 87:53. Sophomore Laura Weiler (Lexington, Ky./Lexington Catholic) then scored with only six seconds left off a corner with the assist to senior Erin Blevins (Xenia, Ohio/Xenia).
Coastal outshot the Highlanders 15-11, but Oleartchick had seven saves for Radford. Stoll ended the game with five saves. Coastal also had a 7-6 advantage in corner kicks.
Sophomore Simone Borucinski (Canberra, Australia/Daramalan College) led Coastal with four shots on goal.
Coastal travels to Charleston, S.C., to face Charleston Southern University Wednesday at 3 p.m.
