More Information:

Junior Katherine Jensen (Vancouver, B.C./Sentinel Secondary) had a career-high 32 digs and added 21 kills and sophomore Alicia Meyers (Temecula, Calif./Temecula Valley) had 18 kills as the Coastal Carolina University volleyball team (19-9, 9-5 Big South) defeated Charleston Southern University (10-15, 4-10 Big South) 3-1 Nov. 12, at Kimbel Arena in Conway, S.C. Game scores were 30-22, 22-30, 30-21, 30-26. Coastal now has won four straight matches heading into the Big South Tournament on Tuesday.

Coastal hit .289 in the first game as the Lady Chanticleers defeated the Lady Bucs 30-22. Coastal was down by as many as three points early before taking a 15-14 led on a kill from junior Jennifer Hampton (Lake Forest, Calif./El Toro). Coastal would never trail the rest of the game as an 8-0 run was capped off by two attack errors and a ball-handling error. Jensen’s kill at 29-22 gave CCU the win.

Charleston Southern took control of game two in the middle as a Coastal attack error gave CSU a 15-12 lead. A Meyers kill cut the lead to 22-20, but three straight errors by the Lady Chants gave Charleston Southern a 25-20 advantage. Victoria Owens closed it out with consecutive kills as Charleston Southern won 30-22.

The Lady Chants hit a torrid .405 in game three, but Coastal still was down as late as 17-16. An error by Erin Wicker, though, stretched the Lady Chant lead to 22-18. Coastal would score the last four points and ended the game on a kill from sophomore Ashley Scheible (Westerville, Ohio/North).

In game four, Coastal jumped out to a 3-0 lead, only to have CSU score the next five points. The game was tied as late as 14-all, but two errors and a Jensen kill gave the Lady Chants a three-point cushion. The game was tight throughout, but Coastal scored the last three points on two Meyers’ kills and a Jensen kill to take the 30-26 lead and the match.

Jensen’s 32 digs was a team high for the season, beating the old mark by seven digs. Sophomore Kristin Rinne (Fountain Hills, Ariz./Fountain Hills) had 16 digs while Hampton added 15. Hampton also had 54 assists on the night. The Lady Chants totaled 12 blocks, eight of them coming from junior Krista Kimble (Lake Forest, Calif./El Toro).

Charleston Southern was led by Owens, who has 16 kills and 18 digs. Libero Olivia Terzo added 21 digs, while Jenni Shepherd had 12 kills.

Both Coastal and Charleston Southern await Saturday’s result to see where and who they will be playing in the Big South Tournament. Coastal will have a home match Tuesday, Nov. 16, at 7 p.m., against either Charleston Southern or High Point.
