CONWAY, S.C. The Coastal Carolina University womens soccer team (7-10-2) scored three goals in each half to defeat Erskine College (4-14) 6-0 Nov. 2 in the regular season finale at the CCU Soccer Field in Conway, S.C. The Lady Chanticleers outshot Erskine 27-1 and set a season high with the six goals.

Senior Leah Barrett (LaPlata, Md./LaPlata) scored Coastals first goal on a reset from a corner kick. Junior Bobbie Parsons (Portugal Cove, Newfoundland/Prince of Wales) fed Barrett, who put the header in for her third goal of the year. Less than two minutes later, Parsons put in her ninth goal of the year on a breakaway with an assist from senior Erin Blevins (Xenia, Ohio/Xenia). Coastal ended the first-half scoring at 27:48 when freshman Emily McColl (Wellington, New Zealand/Hutt Valley) took a feed from classmate Jill Karelitz (Columbia, S.C./Dutch Fork) and scored her third goal of the season. Coastal had 15 shots in the first period, while Erskines goalie Shantika Britt had seven first-half saves.

The Lady Chants scored three goals in the last 17 minutes of the match, as Karelitz scored at 72:45 off a McColl assist. Freshman Missy Winstead (Myrtle Beach, S.C./Myrtle Beach) scored her first career goal at 75:53 on a cross from Blevins. Karelitz then put in her fourth goal of the year unassisted goal at 85:14.

Coastal had 27 shots for the game, led by Parsons six. Freshman Morgan Tolan (Ocean City, Md./Stephen Decatur) earned her first career victory in goal, stopping an Esther Udall shot in the last five minutes. Britt ended the contest with 10 saves for the Flying Fleet. Coastal also had a 7-0 corner-kick advantage.

Coastal heads to Charleston, S.C., for the 2004 Big South Tournament. The seventh-seeded Lady Chants face second-seeded Birmingham-Southern College Thursday, Nov. 4, at 5 p.m., in Blackbaud Stadium.
