Women's Basketball Fall To Liberty, 75-58
LYNCHBURG, Va..-The Coastal Carolina University women’s basketball team (9-11, 3-5 Big South) fell to Liberty University (16-6, 8-0 Big South) 75-58 Feb. 14, in Lynchburg, Va.
Liberty jumped on the Lady Chants early, leading 14-3 in the first seven minutes of the game. Coastal cut it to seven on two free throws from sophomore Amber Rose (Baxter, Tenn./Upperman) and a jumper from senior Cyndie Troutman (Hampton, Tenn./Walters State C.C.), and when senior Nikki Reddick (Hartsville, S.C./Hartsville) hit a three-pointer with 10:14 left, Coastal was down 16-10. Two free throws from senior Temecca Barnes (Malone, Fla./Chipola J.C.) cut the lead to 18-12 with 9:13 left. Liberty was quick to get the lead back to double figures, as a jumper from Katie Feenstra gave the Lady Flames a 13-point lead with 5:31 left. Another Feenstra jumper gave Liberty a 15-point lead with 1:50 left and a Jamie Feagin free throw with three seconds left gave the Lady Flames a 39-24 halftime lead.
Senior Crystal Brown (Mineral Wells, W.Va./Parkersburg South) scored Coastal’s first four points and a Troutman layup cut the lead to 12 at 16:45, but a 9-2 run by Liberty gave the Lady Flames a 51-32 lead. Coastal would finish the game strong, cutting the lead to 13 points on a 30-foot three-pointer from freshman Alisha Dill (Johnson City, Tenn./Science Hill) at 3:55.
Troutman led the Lady Chants with 15 points. She went to the line 14 times, making nine of those tries. She also had five rebounds, four assists and a game-high six steals. Reddick added 13 points, nailing three three-pointers. She led the Chants with six rebounds.
Coastal went 17-of-24 from the line, but only shot 32.1 percent from the floor.
Feenstra scored 27 points, had 13 rebounds and three blocked shots. Liberty outrebounded the Lady Chants 51-31 and outscored Coastal 40-6 from the floor.
Coastal travels to Radford, Va., to face Radford University Monday, Feb. 16, at 7 p.m.
