Box Score Volleyball Loses One, Wins One in Big Orange Bash More Information:
The Coastal Carolina University volleyball team (3-2 ) started the afternoon by falling to the Clemson Tigers in three sets 22-30, 24-30, 23-30 but concluded the evening well by defeating Louisiana-Lafayette in four sets 30-23, 20-30, 30-21, 31-29 in the Big Orange Bash on Friday, Sept. 10.
In the first game of the afternoon the Chants played Clemson tough but could never overcome the perennial volleyball power. Leading the Chants in the defeat were junior outside hitter Katherine Jensen (Vancouver, B.C./Sentinel Secondary ( Ole Miss)) who had 17 kills and junior setter Jennifer Hampton (Lake Forest, Calif./ El Toro) who recorded 33 assists.
For the game the Chanticleers hit .145 on 39 kills with 22 errors. Coastal was outblocked by Clemson 8-3.
In second game of the day, against Louisiana-Lafayette, Jensen again led the squad with 18 kills to go along with nine digs and three aces. Hampton again played a great all around game with 45 assists to along with seven digs. Others playing well in the victory were sophomores Laura Obert (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mother of Mercy) who had 12 kills and four blocks and Kristin Rinne (Fountain Hills, Ariz/ Foutain Hills) who had a team leading 15 digs. Junior Kali Banghart (Woodbridge, Va/ C.D. Hylton) had nice game as well with 12 digs.
For the match, the Chanticleers hit.227 on 62 kills with 27 errors. The Lady Chants were outblocked 12-9 by Louisiana-Lafayette.
CCU will continue their play in the Big Orange Bash with a game on Saturday, Sept. 11 at 10 a.m. against Central Michigan University.
