The Coastal Carolina University volleyball team (7-6, 0-2 Big South) was defeated for second consecutive match, this time coming at the hands of Winthrop University (13-2, 2-0 Big South) on Saturday afternoon 27-30, 22-30 and 22-30, in Rock Hill, S.C.

The match featured two of the top setters in the conference with Emily Heckl and Coastal’s Jennifer Hampton (Lake Forest, Calif./El Toro) going head-to-head, but the Eagles’ sophomore had the more impressive performance with a 43 assists and .462 attack percentage on seven kills. Hampton had a solid performance with 33 assists and nine kills.

Coastal again had their problems in kills and hitting percentage trailing the victorious Eagles 55-37 and .314-.133 for the game.

Junior Katherine Jensen (Vancouver, Bristish Columbia/Sentinel Secondary (Ole Miss)) led Coastal in kills with 12 to go along with a team-high 11 digs, but unfortunately for CCU she was the only Lady Chanticleers to reach double figures in either category. The Eagles had three players reach double figures in kills, led by sophomore Taryn Surbaugh who had 14 kills.

The Lady Chants will be off until next Friday, Oct. 1, when they travel to Radford, Va., to take on Radford at 7 p.m.
