Box Score Women's Soccer Falls to UNC Wilmington 3-2 Weiler, Parsons score first goals of season

The Coastal Carolina University women's soccer team (2-3) scored two goals in the second half, but UNC Wilmington (5-0) had quick answers on both strikes to defeat the Lady Chanticleers 3-2 Sept. 8, in Wilmington, N.C.
UNC Wilmington had a string of six straight corner kicks in the first 10 minutes of the game, but the Seahawks failed to score. The rally including a tremendous save in the eighth minute by sophomore Jaclyn Stoll (Fairfax Station, Va./Hayfield Secondary). Stoll had three saves in the first half, but Wilmington finally got on the board at 34:37 when Caroline Renkin headed a cross from Jenny Cauble for her fourth goal of the season. Coastal had four shots in the first half, but Tiffany Langford had three saves as well for the Seahawks.
Sophomore Laura Weiler (Lexington, Ky./Lexington Catholic) tied the game at 48:37 when she collected a goalie kick and deposited it in the empty right corner. The Seahawks had an answer less than a minute later when Justine Hammer slid a shot past Stoll, giving UNCW a 2-1 lead. Coastal again tied the game at 70:52 when junior Bobbie Parsons (Portugal Cove, Newfoundland/Prince of Wales) took junior Rachel Devine's (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown) pass and scored past Rachael Wilson to knot the game at two. The Seahawks answered less than a minute later when Kristine Mengel lobbed a shot past the on-rushing Stoll for the game-winner and a 3-2 lead. Coastal had a couple of late chances, but couldn't put in the equalizer.
UNCW outshot the Lady Chanticleers 16-11 and held the advantage on corners 6-1. Stoll had eight saves, tying a season-high while the two Seahawk goalies had four total saves. Parsons had five shots, while Weiler added three.
Coastal travels to Greensboro, N.C., to face Old Dominion University in the UNCG/adidas Classic Friday, Sept. 10. Kickoff is at 5 p.m.
