Box Score Volleyball Defeats UNC Asheville In Four Games More Information:
CONWAY, S.C. – Coastal Carolina’s volleyball team defeated UNC Asheville in four games to record the ninth Big South Conference win of the season. The Lady Chants have an overall record of 14-9 and are 9-1 in the Big South Conference. The Bulldogs are now 18-6 and 7-4 in league play. Game scores were 22-30, 30-23, 30-21, and 30-22. In the first game, the Bulldogs took immediate control jumping out to an 8-3 lead.
Katherine-Jensen Spencer (Vancouver, B.C./Sentinel Secondary (Mississippi)) had a kill to bring the Lady Chants closer to UNC Asheville. The Bulldogs then continued to control with a 10-7 lead until Jensen-Spencer had another kill that sent the Lady Chants on a three-point run. The Bulldogs then continued to lead the game after Butler’s kill starting a four-point-streak. The Chants tried to get closer at a 15-12 difference but UNC Asheville remained the leader. The Lady Chants did not let the Bulldogs have more than a three point lead until a 20-19 difference when a kill from Allison Lambert set the Bulldogs with enough lead to where the Lady Chants could not close in. At a 24-20 lead, Asheville went on a four point run and won the first game 30-22. The Bulldogs took off strong in the second game, but CCU battled throughout. After a three-point streak and a score of 5-2 in favor of the Bulldogs, a kill from Jensen-Spencer started the Lady Chants in action. The Bulldogs maintained the lead at a 9-5 score until another pivotal kill from Jensen-Spencer set the Lady Chants on a quick three points. Competition remained close and back and forth until the Bulldogs led 14-13.
Nakia Thompson (Lexington, S.C./Lexington) had a kill that led the Lady Chants to a 15-14 lead, soon to be tied by Asheville. Neither team had solid control of the game until a 21-19 lead in favor of CCU. The Lady Chants then continued to battle and at 26-22 went on a four-point run to clinch the second game, 30-23. Game three also was a back and forth battle. At a 5-4 CCU lead Jensen-Spencer helped the Lady Chants to a 11-4 difference after assisted by
Jennifer Hampton (Lake Forest, Calif. /El Toro). The Bulldogs tried to battle back to get closer to CCU but could never get close enough. At a 23-18 lead, a kill from
Ashley Scheible (Westerville, Ohio/North) sent the Lady Chants on another six-point streak that Asheville could not respond to. Hampton had the winning kill in the third game to four the 30-21 win. Neither team could get more than a three point lead in game four until a 10-7 lead by CCU. The Bulldogs battled back and stayed close until the Lady Chants led 12-8 and quickly jumped ahead 16-8 after a successful kill from Jensen-Spencer. The Bulldogs tried to come back into the game and grab a lead, but the Lady Chants continued to hold on. At a 28-20 lead in favor of the Lady Chants, a kill from Talia Ogle gave Asheville three straight points, but they could not catch up. Jensen-Spencer hit the final kill to win the fourth game, 30-22. Jensen-Spencer tallied 25 kills and 19 digs for CCU. Hampton had 55 assists, seven kills, and 19 digs in the victory.
Alicia Meyers (Temecula, Calif./Temecula Valley ) recorded a double-double with 12 kills and 17 digs. Freshman
Brett Starbuck (Glen Allen, Virginia/JR Tucker) contributed 12 digs. Elif Unlu led the Bulldogs in their effort with 20 kills and 17 digs. Rose Butler had 13 kills, while Ogle recorded 17 digs. The Lady Chants had six blocks while the Bulldogs tallied four. CCU hit at .246, UNC Asheville hit at .213. Seniors

Krista Kimble (Lake Forest, Calif./El Toro), Jensen-Spencer, and Hampton were honored before the match on Senior Night. CCU will now host Birmingham-Southern Sunday, Oct. 30 at 2 p.m.
