Women's Golf Wins Lady Herd/El Diablo Intercollegiate

CITRUS SPRINGS, FL -- Coastal Carolina's women's golf squad led from start to finish to post their first win of the 2004-05 season, capturing the team title at the Lady Herd/El Diablo Intercollegiate, Mar. 21-22. The tournament, hosted by Marshall University, was contested at the El Diablo Golf and Country Club in Citrus Springs, FL.
The Lady Chanticleers led by seven after the first round and then fired a tournament-low 297 in the second round to take command of the event. CCU finished with a 54-hole total of 908, 38 shots better than runner-up and host Marshall at 946. Western Carolina was in third at 949. Big South foe Charleston Southern was also in the event, finishing 13th at 1009.
Coastal Carolina's Katy Heher took home her first collegiate medalist honor with a six-over 222, defeating Heather Hagerman of Florida Gulf Coast by one shot. Line Cordes finished at 229 for a top-10 finish, while Natalie Cruse and Lindsey Letzig tied at 231. Rachel Graves rounded out Coastal's finishers at 233.
The women are next in action Mon.-Tue., Apr. 4-5 at the UNC Wilmington Lady Seahawk Invitational. The tournament will be played at the River Landing Country Club in Wallace, NC.
