Box Score Women's Soccer Falls to UNC Asheville 4-0 More Information:
UNC Asheville’s (4-1-0, 1-0-0 Big South) had two goals from Hilary McKay as the Bulldogs defeated the Coastal Carolina University women’s soccer team (6-2-0, 0-1-0 Big South) 4-0 Sept. 18 in Asheville, N.C. The loss snapped the Lady Chanticleers’ five-game winning streak.
UNC Asheville struck first on an own goal at 22:10 when a Coastal defender attemped to clear the ball out of the box and redirected it by junior Jaclyn Stoll (Fairfax Station, Va./Hayfield Secondary). Then at 28:57, Hilary McKay took a Robyn Busha cross and scored in the upper half of the goal for her conference-leading seventh goal of the season.
UNC Asheville outshot Coastal 6-2 in the first half and held a 2-1 corner-kick advantage. Stoll had two saves for the Lady Chanticleers in the first half, while the Bulldogs’ Michaelle Mattos had one save.
Asheville scored again just 4:21 into the second half. McKay shot from about 15 yards that went off the leg of a Coastal defender into the net. Asheville ended the scoring at 70:04 when Joy Haynes scored on an open net with a McKay assist.
Asheville outshot the Lady Chants 14-7. Senior Bobbie Parsons (Portugal Cove, Newfoundland/Prince of Wales) led Coastal with three shots. Stoll had seven saves in defeat, while Mattos had two stops.
Coastal will travel to Spartanburg, S.C., to take on Wofford Wednesday, Sept. 21, at 7 p.m.
