Women's Soccer Wins Shootout over Longwood 6-4

Box Score Women's Soccer Wins Shootout over Longwood 6-4

More Information:

The Coastal Carolina University women’s soccer team (8-3) scored five goals in the first half and held on to defeat Longwood University (2-8) 6-4 Sept. 29 in Farmville, Va.  Coastal’s six goals are the most CCU has scored since a 6-1 victory over the Virginia Military Institue Sept. 21, 2003.   Longwood had a 1-0 lead just 3:07 into the game as Kristina Reed fed to Brooke Brumby and beat junior Jaclyn Stoll (Fairfax Station, Va./Hayfield Secondary) high. The Lady Chanticleers would waste no time in tying the game as freshman Blair Monroe (Little River, S.C./North Myrtle Beach) took a pass from midfield by freshman Jenna Anderson (Cape Coral, Fla./Mariner) and tipped it pass Heather Storrie at 7:42.  The Lady Chants would strike again at 23:25 on a Monroe goal from senior Kristina Fisher (Landenberg, Pa./Avon Grove).  The freshman would then secure her second career hat trick at 31:44 when she took a tipped pass from sophomore Jill Karelitz (Columbia, S.C./Dutch Fork) and beat Storrie left.  It was her 11th goal of the season, tying her with teammate Bobbie Parsons (Portugal Cove, Newfoundland/Prince of Wales) for goals in a season at Coastal.  Parsons scored 11 in the 2003 season.  Monroe also now leads the Big South in goals scored.  Coastal was not done scoring in the half.  Fisher scored her fourth goal of the year on a feed from freshman Alyssa Hunt (Lakeland, Fla./George Jenkins) to make it 4-1 and freshman Heather Haupt (Springfield, Va./West Springfield), playing in her first game in a Coastal uniform, scored off a feed from Karelitz at 43:01, giving the Lady Chants its highest offensive output of the season in only one half.   Coastal outshot the Lancers 9-3 in the first half, with Monroe leading the team with three shots.  Stoll had one save in the first half for CCU.   Coastal extended the lead to five at 51:43 as senior Rachel Devine (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown) took a pass in the center of the box from Parsons and delivered her first goal of the season.  It was Parsons' 16th career assist, breaking the school career record for assists that was previously held by Kristin Wisse.  Longwood would make a game of it in the second half, scoring three straight goals in a span of 5:14.  Melissa Cary scored off a direct corner kick at 54:12 to cut the Coastal lead to 6-2.  Then at 56:20, Anna Gravely scored off a Katie Young assist to make it 6-3.  Beth Shade then took a Coastal turnover and beat Stoll to the left side for a 6-4 game.  Longwood had looks off corners late, but could not score as Coastal earned its eighth win of the year, already more than the 2004 campaign.   Coastal outshot Longwood 15-12 for the game, but Longwood had a 7-4 edge on corner kicks.  Monroe had five shots to lead Coastal.  Stoll ended the game with one save, while Storrie and Anne Whitmore combined for six saves for the Lancers.   This was the first time in school history that Coastal has given up four goals and won.  Coastal also improved its all-time series with the Lancers to 2-0.   Coastal continues its roadtrip to Virginia, taking on VMI Saturday, Oct. 1, at 1 p.m.   (NOTE:  Due to phone issues in Farmville, live stats did not work for tonight's game.  There are plans to do live stats for Saturday's game against VMI at 1 p.m.)
