CONWAY, S.C.- The Coastal Carolina volleyball team (9-22, 4-10) swept the Charleston Southern Lady Buccaneers (8-21, 1-13) 3-0 at Kimbel Arena for Senior Night. The game scores were 30-28, 30-26 and 30-21.
Both teams came out quickly matching each other point-for-point until the score was 24 apiece. Charleston Southern took a short lead off of a Lady Chanticleer attack error and a kill from Ashlee Kadatz. However, senior Kristin Rinne (Fountain Hills, Ariz./Fountain Hills) answered back with two quick kills and junior Nakia Thompson (Lexington, S.C./Lexington) put one ball down to take the 27-26 lead and force a Lady Buccaneer timeout. Thompson came back with another kill after the timeout, but the Lady Buccaneers responded with two kills of their own, from Renae Popovich and Jillian Worby. Coastal then got the 30-28 win off of a Charleston Southern service error and a big kill from Thompson. The Lady Buccaneers were led by Kadatz and Jenni Shepherd who each had four kills. As a team, Coastal hit .230 off of six kills from freshman Jill Nyhof (Alpharetta, Ga./Northview) and five apiece from Rinne and Thompson.
The Lady Chanticleers got the early 11-6 lead before two consecutive Coastal errors brought the Lady Buccaneers within three. It wasn't until Head Coach Kristen Bauer took a timeout that the Coastal offense was sparked. After the time out, Nyhof blasted the ball down for a kill and the blocking duo of Rinne and fellow senior Ashley Scheible (Westerville, Ohio/North) helped put the Lady Chants ahead 27-22. Despite two Canan Erdogan kills and a block from Sam Sasan and Shepherd, the Lady Bucs couldn't catch up losing the game 30-26. The Lady Bucs were led by Kadatz who had five kills and Erdogan who tallied four.
