Men's Tennis Sweeps Limestone College 7-0

GAFFNEY, S.C. - The Coastal Carolina men's tennis team (7-3, 0-1 Big South) swept its non-conference match against Limestone College (5-6) 7-0 on Sunday, March 5. For CCU it was the third consecutive match it has won.

The number one singles match saw sophomore David Mellis (London, England/Goffs) defeat senior Eric Sajowitz 1-6, 6-4, 6-4. CCU junior Elliott Quibell (Derby, England/Cheam (Colorado)) defeated freshman Christopher Ross in the second singles match 6-2, 6-1 while junior Simon Taylor (Hampshire, England/Queen's Mary College) won the third singles match over freshman Peter Elsborg 6-1, 6-4.

The fourth singles match was won by Coastal junior Andy Caress (Cincinnati, Ohio/Princeton) 6-3, 6-1 over Christian Aguliar. Junior Richard Redding (Winscombe, England/Queen Elizabeth's Hospital) defeated junior Jafet Banuelos 2-6, 6-4, 6-4 in the fifth singles match and junior Ryan Weisband (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel) complete the singles sweep over senior Martin Greenhalgh 6-2, 6-1.

The Chanticleers took the doubles point by defeating all three Limestone doubles teams. At the first seed, the Chants Quibell/Redding defeated Elsborg/Greenhalgh 8-4. In the second doubles seeding Caress/Taylor defeated Sajowitz/Ross 8-4. The third doubles seed also was for Coastal as Dowis/Mellis downed Aguliar/Banuelos 8-0.

Next for Coastal is a neutral site match against Connecticut at 2 p.m. in Hilton Head, S.C. on March 8. The Chants have a busy weekend of matches next weekend as CCU hosts three home matches. The weekend begins on Thursday, March 9 with a conference match against UNC Asheville at 3 p.m. CCU hosts conference rival Liberty at 12 p.m. on March 11. Non-conference James Madison comes in for the final match of the weekend on March 12 at 12 p.m.
