CHARLESTON, S.C. – Sophomore Blair Monroe (Little River, S.C./North Myrtle Beach) and senior Simone Borucinski (Canberra, Australia/Daramalan College) scored goals and senior Jaclyn Stoll (Fairfax Station, Va./Hayfield Secondary) had two saves, including a big stop on a penalty kick, as the Coastal Carolina University women’s soccer team (7-2-1) defeated The Citadel (1-9-1) 2-0 Sept. 26 in Charleston, S.C.

Coastal scored in the 18th minute when Monroe received a pass from sophomore Chelsea Terry (Charleston, S.C./James Island) and beat The Citadel goalie Emily Green from five yards out. It was Monroe’s seventh goal of the season and the first assist for Terry, who was playing in her hometown. In the 32nd minute, Coastal committed a foul in the box, giving the Bulldogs a penalty kick. Sarah Burke went left with her attempt and Stoll saved the shot, keeping the score 1-0 Coastal.

The Lady Chanticleers outshot The Citadel 13-1 in the first half and had a 3-0 corner-kick advantage. Green had 10 saves in the first 45 mintues for the Bulldogs, while Stoll had the save on the PK.

Coastal had an 11-1 shot advantage in the second half, but did not score until there were 49 seconds left in regulation. Borucinski's shot from 35 yards out and went over Green’s head for her second goal of the year.

For the game, Coastal outshot The Citadel 24-2 and had five corner kicks. Stoll had two saves for CCU, while Green had 14 stops.

Monroe lead Coastal with seven shots, four on goal. Junior Ashleigh Gunning (Baton Rouge, La./Magnet (LSU)) had five shots, while senior Laura Weiler (Lexington, Ky./Lexington Catholic) had four shots.

Coastal will step back into Big South play Wednesday, Oct. 4, when the Lady Chanticleers host Winthrop at 6 p.m.
