Box Score Volleyball Swept by the College of Charleston More Information:
CHARLESTON, S.C. -- Coastal Carolina's volleyball team fell to the College of Charleston 3-0 at John Kresse Arena Tuesday night (Oct. 16). Game scores were 20-30, 26-30, 12-30.
After a slow start to game one, the Lady Chanticleers began to rally midway through the game, cutting the College of Charleston's lead down from 12 to five. Coastal's seven-point run started with a kill by freshman Megan Bickford (Olathe, Kan./Olathe South) and included five straight Cougar attack errors. Of those errors, three resulted from Coastal blocks as sophomore Jill Nyhof (Alpharetta, Ga./Northview) and Bickford combined for one block, while sophomore Meagan Tracey (Scottsdale, Ariz./Horizon) and Bickford combined for two. A Nyhof kill then brought the Lady Chants to within five and made it a 22-17 game. After a Cougar kill, Coastal pulled to within five once more off another Nyhof kill, but that would be the closest the Lady Chants came as the College of Charleston went on to win game one.
Trailing 19-14 in game two, Coastal started to make a comeback and eventually tied the match at 22-all off a College of Charleston attack error. The Cougars took a one point lead off a Lady Chant service error, but a block by Nyhof and Bickford evened the game. However, the College of Charleston had a three-point run that gave it enough of a cushion to take game two.
Coastal had to contend with a solid Cougar offense and defense in game three. The Cougars had multiple runs in game three, including a eight-point run. Defensively, the Cougars totaled one block solo and 11 block assists.
Nyhof led the Lady Chants with 10 kills. Bickford totaled five blocks with one solo and four block assists. Tracey tallied 27 assists, while junior Brett Starbuck (Glen Allen, Va./J.R. Tucker) had 10 digs.
Cole Dawley and Deanna Patrick each had a match-high 11 kills for the Cougars. Lindsey Kane added 35 assists and Megan Parkerson had 13 digs.
Coastal returns to Kimbel Arena on Friday night when it welcomes Radford on Senior Night. Match time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
