CONWAY, S.C. -- In Big South Conference action, Coastal Carolina's volleyball team defeated Radford 3-1 Friday night (Oct. 19) during Senior Night at Kimbel Arena, snapping a four-match losing skid. CCU advanced to 12-12 and 4-3 in Big South play, while RU fell to 7-16 and 2-5 in the league. Game scores were 30-19, 29-31, 30-25, 30-15.

The Lady Chanticleers bookended the match with dominating performances in games one and four. Coastal converted on 20 kills off 40 total attacks for a .375 hitting percentage in game one. The Lady Chants then tallied 15 kills off 30 total attacks in game four for a .433 hitting percentage.

Both Radford and Coastal had runs to start game two. Most of the game remained close as neither team was able to get more than a three-point lead until Coastal used a late six-point run to take a 28-22 lead. However, the Highlanders responded with a six-point run of their own to even the game at 28-all. A kill by sophomore Jill Nyhof (Alpharetta, Ga./Northview) gave Coastal the one-point lead, but Radford was able to get the last three points it needed for the win and to tie the match.

However, game three proved to be the pivotal game. After trailing 16-10, Coastal began to make its comeback. A service error by Radford's Lindsay Rupert sparked a nine-point Lady Chanticleer run. Sophomore Megan Pollard (Naperville, Ill./Naperville) served eight of those points, including a service ace that gave Coastal the 17-16 lead. Neither team could get control of the game, with the largest lead being two points until the end. With Radford leading 25-24, senior Nakia Thompson (Lexington, S.C./Lexington) tallied a kill that started Coastal's game-winning run. Junior Brett Starbuck (Glen Allen, Va./J.R. Tucker) served Coastal's final five points of the game, including a service ace, to give CCU a 2-1 lead in the match.

"Game three was important for us, having been behind several times and having to fight back," Head Coach Kristen Bauer said. "That gave us the edge. Megan Pollard and Brett Starbuck gave us several runs with their tough serving. Also, it doesn't hurt that we had four players hit over .400 in the match."

Nyhof led the match with 19 kills. Freshman Megan Bickford (Olathe, Kan./Olathe South) added 18 kills, hit a match-best .552 and had three solo blocks and two assisted blocks. Sophomore Meagan Tracey (Scottsdale, Ariz./Horizon) totaled 47 assists. Starbuck totaled 30 digs, reaching the 30-dig plateau for the second time this season.

Lindsey Poole and Heidi Haubrich had a team-best seven kills, while Ginny Dolan added 18 digs for Radford.

Coastal closes out its home season on Saturday afternoon against Liberty. Match time is set for 2 p.m. at Kimbel Arena.
