Box Score Volleyball Suffers 3-0 Loss at Liberty More Information:
LYNCHBURG, Va. -- The Coastal Carolina women's volleyball team was swept by Liberty 3-0 Saturday, Oct. 6 at the Vines Center. Game scores were 15-30, 22-30, 25-30.
"Liberty had a fast offense, which was a challenge for us," Head Coach Kristen Bauer said. "They ran a slide and right side offense extremely well this afternoon."
Frequent Liberty (12-7, 4-1) runs plagued Coastal (11-9, 3-1) throughout game one as the Flames had six runs that consisted of three or more points.
Coastal found itself trailing to start the second game with Liberty scoring the first five points. However, as the Lady Chants trailed 13-7, freshman Amanda Russell's (Liberty, Ind./Liberty) kill sparked a Coastal 8-1 scoring run and eventually allowed the Lady Chants to take a 15-14 lead. The teams remained close as a kill by sophomore Jill Nyhof (Alpharetta, Ga./Northview) gave Coastal a 20-17 advantage. Those three points were Coastal's largest lead of the game as Liberty rallied with a 10-point run to win the game.
Despite Coastal getting the first three points in game three, the Flames' offense and defense proved to be too much. Coastal was able to rally late in the game and pull to within one off a block by senior Nakia Thompson (Lexington, S.C./Lexington) and Nyhof. However, Liberty was able to pull away for the win.
Freshman Megan Bickford (Olathe, Kan/Olathe South) led Coastal with a .455 hitting percentage, while Nyhof and freshman Chelsy Kimes led the team with seven kills apiece. Bickford and Thompson led the match with five block assists each.
Nicki Scripko totaled a match-high 17 kills for Liberty, while Lara Bartolomeo had 16 digs.
Coastal returns to action next Friday night when it hosts High Point, Oct. 12. Match time is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Kimbel Arena.
