CONWAY, S.C. – Sophomore Lacey Lyons (Beverly Hills, Fla./Crystal River) scored the final 13 points in the first half for the Coastal Carolina University women’s basketball team (2-0), turning an eight-point deficit into a four-point lead and propelling the Lady Chanticleers to a 63-46 win over the College of Charleston (0-1) Nov. 14 in Conway, S.C. Lyons ended the game with 22 points for CCU, who outscored the Cougars 34-21 in the second half.   The College of Charleston took a quick 12-4 lead on a Sarah Moye jumper at 15:01 and controlled most of the first half. Coastal would cut the lead to two (16-14) on free throws from freshman Sydnei Moss (North Augusta, S.C./North Augusta) at 10:40, but the Cougars responded with an 8-2 run capped by an Erika Smith jumper at 7:07. Lyons started the comeback with a jumper at 4:24. She then hit two straight three-pointers, the final one to to the game at 24 with 2:49 remaining in the half. Coastal would take its first lead of the game on a Lyons three at 2:10. She ended the Coastal scoring in the half with free throws at 1:15 as the Lady Chants entered the lockerroom with a four-point lead.    Lyons was 3-of-7 from the field and had three rebounds to go with her 13 points in the first half. Sophomore Devin Rivers (Miami, Fla./Felix Varela) added five points and senior C.J. Ware (Decatur, Ga./Lakeside) had three first-half assists. Nikki Williams led the Cougars with seven first-half points.   A Ware jumper at 15:29 gave CCU an eight-point lead (35-27) with 15:29 to go, but the Cougars would eventually take the lead on a Brooke Kotcella layup at 11:23. The lead would go back-and-forth until the Lady Chants controlled the advantage for good on freshman Courtney Grambley’s (Morrow, Ohio/Little Miami) three-point play at 7:44. Coastal would end the game on an 18-2 run and the Lady Chants went 13-for-14 from the free-throw line in the second frame.   Coastal would have two players in double figures in scoring - Lyons and sophomore Amanda Stull (Rushville, Ind./Rushville Consolidated). Lyons hit four three pointers and went 6-for-6 from the free-throw line. She also had seven rebounds. Stull had 12 points and four assists. Ware ended the game with six rebounds and four assists.   Coastal shot 35.1 percent from the field and was 18-of-20 from the free-throw line. Coastal outrebounded C of C 42-34 while forcing the Cougars into 19 turnovers.    Erica Williams led the Cougars with 11 points, while Nikki Williams added nine rebounds. Erika Smith had three of the Cougars’ five blocked shots.   Coastal will hit the road for the first time this season Saturday, Nov. 17 at Stetson.  Game time is at 3 p.m. The College of Charleston is at UNC Wilmington Nov. 19 at 7 p.m.
