The Coastal Carolina University women’s basketball team (7-2) built a 13-point first half lead, but Jacksonville (7-3) tied the game at half and then held the Lady Chanticleers only six made field goals in the second half as the Dolphins defeated CCU 56-48 Dec. 8 in Jacksonville, Fla. The game featured six ties and five lead changes, but Jacksonville went on a 14-4 run late in the second half to preserve the victory.   Coastal raced out to a 17-4 lead in the first 7:22, helped by four early points from sophomore Devin Rivers (Miami, Fla./Felix Varela) in the first two-and-a-half minutes. Sophomore Lacey Lyons (Beverly Hills, Fla./Crystal River) had five points in that stretch, including a three to give the Lady Chants the 11-point lead. Jacksonville came back with a 6-0 run, but freshman Kate Jasinski (Toledo, Ohio/Penn (Ind.)) came back and hit a three with 9:47 left to put Coastal up 20-10. Jacksonville went on another 6-0 run, capped by a three from Regina Omoite, to get within four and then used free throws by DaVina Hamilton to take its first lead of the day 21-20 with 7:04 left. Lyons would stay hot, hitting a three at 3:21 and scoring Coastal’s final points of the first half on a jumper with 1:00 left. Hamilton came right back with a layup with 50 seconds left as the game was tied at 31 at half.   Lyons led Coastal with 12 points while Rivers and freshman Katie White (St. Charles, Ill./East) had six apiece. White also had two blocked shots for the Lady Chants. For Jacksonville, Hamilton had 13 points and five rebounds, while Omoite had six points and two assists. Jacksonville shot 50 percent from the field, while Coastal was at 46.7 percent.   Jacksonville scored the first four points of the second half, but Coastal retook the lead 37-35 on two free throws from senior C.J. Ware (Decatur, Ga./Lakeside). A free throw from Virginia Gregoire and a jumper by Desarae Johnson gave Jacksonville a 38-37 lead. Freshman Sydnei Moss (North Augusta, S.C./North Augusta) kept the Dolphins lead to 40-39, but Jacksonville would score the next six points as Hamilton’s jumper at 3:50 made it 50-41 JU. The Dolphins would get the lead to 11 with 1:44 left and would win by eight for Jacksonville’s 15 straight win at home.    Lyons and Rivers had 12 points apiece for Coastal, who shot 42.6 percent from the field. Rivers and sophomore Amanda Stull (Rushville, Ind./Rushville Consolidated) had five rebounds apiece, while Jasinski had three assists.   For the Dolphins, Hamilton had 21 points on 8-of-10 shooting. She also had nine rebounds and two assists. Omoite added 10 points and four assists.   Jacksonville had a 35-27 rebounding advantage and forced Coastal into 21 turnovers. Coastal did have 24 points in the paint.   Coastal will take this week off for final exams and then will face fourth-ranked North Carolina Monday, Dec. 17 at 7 p.m., in Kimbel Arena.
