Women's Basketball Travels to Appalachian State for Wednesday Contest

BOONE, N.C. - Coastal Carolina women's basketball (7-9, 0-4) plays their first road game since Dec. 6 as they take on Appalachian State (7-6, 0-3) on Wednesday, Jan. 7 in Boone, N.C. Tip-off is set for 6:30 p.m. ET and will be streamed live on ESPN+ as well as the Chanticleer Sports Network.

ABOUT THE CHANTS

  • The Chanticleers are one of the highest-volume three-point shooting teams in the country, ranking 14th with 9.5 three-pointers per game and 26th with 26.7 three-point attempts per game.  
  • After spending almost the entirety of December at home, Coastal plays back-to-back road games against App State and Marshall.  
  • The Chanticleers dropped their fourth-straight conference game 60-50 to Georgia Southern on Saturday at the HTC Center. 
  • Coastal's four conference losses have been by a combined 20 points. 
  • Coastal went 19-54 (35%) from the field and 6-25 (24%) from three-point range, while making 16 of 18 free throws.
  • Through 14 games, Coastal ranks 62nd in the country with 75.2 points per game
  • Kristin Williams leads the team in scoring with 14.3 points per game. 

ABOUT THE MOUNTAINEERS
  • Appalachian State holds a 7-6 overall record and 0-3 in Sun Belt play. 
  • The Mountaineers fell 53-48 to Marshall on Saturday.  
  • Daisia Mitchell leads the team in scoring with 11.0 points per game. 
  • Alaura Sharp is in her second year as the head coach of the Mountaineers after a 13-17 record last season.  

SERIES HISTORY
  • Coastal will be meeting App State for the 26th time, with the Mountaineers holding the series lead 16-9. 
  • The last time these two teams met was Feb. 28, 2025, where the Chants won 88-51.
  • Coastal's last win in Boone came on Jan. 18, 2020 (80-53). The Chants have lost five consecutive road games in the series. 

CALLING KRISTIN
  • In her second season with the Chants, graduate guard Kristin Williams had led the Chants in scoring, averaging 14.3 points per game.
  • Williams has found her groove in Sun Belt play, averaging 18.5 points per game across three conference games. 
  • She ranks among the best shooters in the Sun Belt, ranking first in 3P% (46%) while ranking second the conference in three-pointers per game (3.4).

THREE-POINT PARTY
  • Currently, Coastal ranks 14th in the country with 9.5 made three-pointers per game.
  • The Chants are also ranked 26th in the country with 26.7 three-point attempts per contest.
  • Both Kristin Williams and Tessa Grady rank in the top-60 in the country for made three-pointers, with Williams in second (55) and Grady in 55th (42).
  • Williams ranks second the Sun Belt with 3.4 three-pointers per game while Grady ranks fifth with 2.6.

COASTAL CHAOS
  • Head Coach Kevin Pederson coined the term "Coastal Chaos" prior to last season due to his philosophy of tough defense and forcing teams to be uncomfortable. 
  • The stats backed up the chaotic defense, as the Chants led the Sun Belt with 20.3 turnovers forced per game and ranked second in steals per game with 10.88.
  • This season, Coastal ranks tied for 32nd in the country with 21.7 turnovers forced per game, and tied for 83rd with a turnover margin of 3.4.

PEDERSON REACHES 500
  • Coastal Carolina Head Coach Kevin Pederson won his 500th career game on Dec. 29, 2025 against Columbia College. 
  • He holds 56 victories at Coastal, the fastest coach in program history to reach that mark.
