Box Score Volleyball Sweeps South Carolina State 3-0 More Information:
CONWAY, S.C. -- Coastal Carolina's women's volleyball team (7-7) got its second sweep of the season on Tuesday night with a 3-0 victory over South Carolina State at Kimbel Arena. All 12 Lady Chanticleers saw playing time in the match as game scores were 30-23, 30-21, 30-16.
Game one was close for the most part as neither team was able to get a lead larger than three in the early part of the match. With Coastal leading 21-20, the Lady Chanticleers used a five-point run to increase their lead over South Carolina State to 26-20. South Carolina State could get no closer than five on two occasions, but a kill by freshman Chelsy Kimes (Munster, Ind./Munster) sealed the game win.
Games two and three were all Coastal. The Lady Chants led by as many as 10 points in game two and then ended game three and the match with a 14-point advantage, their largest of the match.
Kimes led the match in both kills and digs as she recorded 13 kills and 12 digs for her fourth double-double. She also hit a match best .480. Sophomore Meagan Tracey (Scottsdale, Ariz./Horizon) put up 33 assists. Meanwhile, junior Brett Starbuck (Glen Allen, Va./J.R. Tucker) tied her career-high for service aces for the fourth time with a match-high of three.
Kathlyn Stephenson led South Carolina State with seven kills, while Monique Walker and Laura Waters-Brown each had a team-high nine digs.
Coastal returns to action on Friday , Sept. 21, when it opens Big South Conference play against in-state rival Charleston Southern at Kimbel Arena. Match time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
