Box Score Volleyball Tops Presbyterian, 3-1

CLINTON, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina University volleyball team defeated Presbyterian 3-1 (25-23, 22-25, 25-19, 25-16) Friday, Oct. 17, at the Ross Templeton Center. The Chanticleers have now won the past four matches and improve to 16-7 overall and 5-2 in Big South play.
Sophomore Amanda Russell (Liberty, Ind./Union County) registered a match-high 17 kills while freshman Kelsie Mauck (Muncie, Ind./Delta) had 43 assists for the Chanticleers. Sophomore Chelsy Kimes (Munster, Ind./Munster) registered her fifth double-double of the season with 14 kills and 15 digs on the night.
Coastal Carolina went down early in the first set but played its way to a 4-4 tie, before taking the lead for the rest of the frame. Kimes recorded the kill that gave the Chants a 25-23 victory in the first set.
The teams would play a tight second set, with the Blue Hose coming out the winners as they earned a 25-22 victory over the Chanticleers. However, Coastal Carolina would take the next two sets 25-19 and 25-16 to defeat the Blue Hose 3-1.
The Chanticleers outhit the Blue Hose .246 to .058. Senior Brett Starbuck (Glen Allen, Va./J.R. Tucker) tallied a match-high 16 digs for Coastal Carolina.
Coastal Carolina continues its four-match road swing squaring off against UNC Asheville Saturday, Oct. 18. First serve is set for 2 p.m.
