Box Score Volleyball Swept by High Point, 3-0 More Information:
HIGH POINT, N.C. – For the first time this season, the Coastal Carolina University women’s volleyball team (12-7, 2-2 Big South) did not record a service ace in a match and fell 3-0 (15-25, 24-26, 11-25) to High Point (14-3, 4-0 Big South) at the Millis Athletic Center Friday, Oct. 3. The Chanticleers are ranked sixth in the NCAA averaging 2.1 service aces per set.
Sophomore
Chelsy Kimes (Munster, Ind./Munster) recorded 12 kills and junior
Meagan Tracey (Scottsdale, Ariz./Horizon) had 18 assists. The Chanticleers found themselves down 11-8 when High Point used a four-point rally to take a 15-8 lead in the first set. The Chants could not escape a series of errors that followed them the rest of the way as High Point took the first set 25-15. The two squads swapped points to begin the second frame playing to a 14-14 deadlock, before Coastal Carolina recorded six of the next seven points for a 20-15 advantage. High Point rallied back to tie the score at 24-24 and would edge the Chants 26-24 in the second frame.
High Point came out of the break to score the first three points before Coastal Carolina got on the board after a ball handling error by the Panthers, to trail 3-1. The Chanticleers could not sort out a potent High Point attack, as the Panthers fired off six consecutive kills to go ahead 21-8 forcing a timeout by the Chanticleers. Kimes knocked down a kill and junior Jill Nyhof (Alpharetta, Ga./Northview) added two of her own coming out of the timeout, but could not erase the deficit as High Point took a 25-11 victory in the third frame.
Coastal Carolina struggled offensively, posting just 29 kills and hitting just .146, as compared to .269 for High Point with 42 kills. The host Panthers also posted nine service aces, with the Chants unable to post a single ace. The Chanticleers also had four ball handling errors and were outblocked 6-3.
Coastal Carolina will be hosting its
DIG PINK match against the Winthrop Eagles Tuesday, Oct. 7 at 6 p.m., where they will be donning pink uniforms in conjunction with plenty of giveaways for the home crowd. The Chanticleers ask that all attendees wear pink as teams all across the country band together in the ongoing fight against breast cancer.
