RADFORD, Va. – The Coastal Carolina University women’s basketball team (15-9, 3-6 Big South) led for parts of the first half, but separate 11-0 runs in each period by Radford (19-9, 6-3 Big South) propelled the Highlanders to a 76-58 win Feb. 18 in the Dedmon Center. Radford started out with a 13-6 lead at 15:06 on a three-pointer from Taleia Moton. Freshman
Sydnei Moss (North Augusta, S.C./North Augusta) scored four points to cut the RU lead to 13-10. Freshman
Katie White’s (St. Charles, Ill./East) layup made it a one-point game with 12:51 left in the half. White had another layup with 10:03 to go, giving Coastal a 16-15 lead. Freshman
Kate Jasinski (Toledo, Ohio/Penn (Ind.)) hit a three in the corner at 9:17, giving Coastal a 19-15 lead. Radford would come back and tie the game at 21. Sophomore
Amanda Stull’s (Rushville, Ind./Rushville Consolidated) hit a layup at 8:05, giving the Lady Chants a 23-21 lead, but the Highlanders’ full-court pressure would lead to an 11-0 run over 2:25, capped by a layup from Vandy Pullen. Pullen hit a three at 1:25, making it 35-27 Radford. Senior
Vicky Blanchard’s (Eutawville, S.C./Holly Hill-Roberts) jumper from the foul line at 1:05 made it 35-29 at the break. Sophomore
Lacey Lyons (Beverly Hills, Fla./Crystal River), Blanchard and White had six points to lead Coastal. The Lady Chants shot 43.3 percent from the field in the first 20 minutes. For Radford, Moton had 11 points, while Kelli Darden grabbed six rebounds. Jasinksi cut the Radford lead to 39-34 at 17:38 with a three-pointer, but Radford then went on another 11-0 run, this time capped by a Walker three at 14:39. Lyons made it 55-43 at 11:22 with a three pointer, but the Lady Chants would get no closer as Radford led by as many as 22 points in the second half for the win. Lyons led Coastal with 14 points, while Blanchard had 11 and Moss added 10. Coastal shot 40.7 percent from the field and were 10-of-14 from the free-throw line. Devin Rivers (Miami, Fla./Felix Varela) had a team high six rebounds. Pullen led Radford with 19 points, going 7-of-16 from the field. Walker added 16 points, while Darden had nine rebounds. Coastal turned the ball over 19 times which led to 26 points for the Highlanders. Coastal returns to Kimbel Arena for a 2 p.m., matchup against Winthrop Saturday, Feb. 23.
