Men's Tennis Falls 7-0 to No. 75 Davidson More Information:
DAVIDSON, N.C. -- Coastal Carolina's men's tennis was swept by No. 75 Davidson 7-0 at Covington Tennis Center in Davidson, N.C. Tuesday, March 25.
Although Coastal (7-10) won at No. 1 doubles, Davidson (10-4) captured the doubles point with wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 slots. Senior David Mellis (London, England/Goffs) and sophomore Dmitry Vlaskin (Moscow, Russia/Moscow 1201 (Arkansas)) scored an 8-6 victory over Flaviu Simihaian and Ethan Jaffee in the No. 1 slot. Meanwhile, Eric Noble and Sam Burns defeated junior Joseph Withers (Peoria, Ill./Dunlap (Liberty)) and freshman John Hairston (Myrtle Beach, S.C./Myrtle Beach) 8-3 at No. 2 doubles. Phillip Compeau and Scott Myers topped freshmen Ernesto Ramos (Tampico, Mexico/Instituto Andes (Jacksonville)) and Carlo Checchia (Brasilia, Brazil/Galois) 8-5 in the No. 3 slot.
In singles competition, Simihaian defeated Vlaskin 6-2, 6-4 in the No. 1 slot and Eric Noble beat Mellis 7-5, 6-1 at No. 2 singles. Jaffee had a 6-2, 6-4 win over Hairston at No. 3 singles and Burns won 6-4, 6-1 over Withers at the No. 4 slot. Myers defeated Checchia 7-5, 6-1 at No. 5 singles, while Arie Hefter topped freshman Omar El Bouzkouri (Meknes, Morocco/Schiller) 6-0, 6-1 in the No. 6 slot.
The Chanticleers return to action Saturday, March 29 with a Big South Conference match at High Point. Match time is scheduled for 10 a.m.
