Final Stats

CONWAY, S.C. - The Coastal Carolina volleyball team defeated Radford 3-1 (25-18, 23-25, 25-21, 25-16) in its first home Big South match on Friday, Oct. 2. The Chanticleers improve to 8-8 overall and 2-1 in the Big South while the Highlanders fall to 10-9 overall and 1-3 in the Big South.

It was a career and season-high night for the Chanticleers as senior Meagan Tracey had a season-high 43 assists and freshman Sierra Livesay had 16 kills for a new career-high. Junior Amanda Russell also had a career-high 10 assists.

After dropping the first point of the first set, Coastal Carolina went out to a 15-9 lead and never allowed Radford to build a comeback. Both Sierra Livesay and Megan Bickford served for four straight points to help the Chants hold the lead and Chelsy Kimes finished the set serving the last four points for the 1-0 match advantage. Despite eight attack errors by the Chanticleers, they finished the set with a .244 team hitting percentage while holding Radford to a .143 team hitting percentage.

In the second set, Radford forced nine ties but still remained down 20-16. A service error by both Bickford and Livesay, and a Russell kill put the set at 21-18 in favor of the Chants. A late 6-0 Highlander run tied the set at 23-all and kills by Radford's Carly Fleming and Emily Hayes tied the match at 1-1.

Similar to the first set, Radford went out to an early 3-0 lead but a 7-1 Coastal Carolina run put them up 7-5. Coastal Carolina would keep the lead throughout the set, even though Radford would come to within one point multiple times. Six attack errors proved to be the problem for the Highlanders as the Chants went up 2-1 in the match. Livesay finished the set with eight kills and a .438 hitting percentage.

In the fourth set, Coastal Carolina came out strong and with the help of Meagan Tracey's serving and went out to a 5-0 lead. The Highlanders would attempt to build a comeback, but every time they got something started, the Chants answered back. Erika Lightsey showed her power with two big kills towards the end of the match and Becky Stowers demonstrated her defensive abilities with two big digs to hold off the pesky Highlanders at the end.

The Chants hit over .200 in all four sets and hit .355 in the third. Chelsy Kimes had another double-double with 13 kills and 12 digs to bring her to seven on the season. Jill Nyhof added three blocks and Megan Pollard tallied 21 digs.

Coastal Carolina returns to action on Tues., Oct. 6 as it travels to Rock Hill, S.C. and take on Winthrop at 6 p.m.
