Final Stats

CONWAY, S.C. - The Coastal Carolina University volleyball team gets back in the win column as it defeats High Point 3-0 (25-19, 25-20, 25-23) on Saturday, Oct. 24 at Kimbel Arena. The Chanticleers improve to 14-10 overall and 7-3 in the Big South while the Panthers fall to 13-13 and 3-7 in the Big South.

After a tough loss yesterday to Liberty, Coastal Carolina came out looking pumped and ready to get back in the win column. The Chants finished with a .283 team attack percentage and held the Panthers to a team attack percentage of .143.

The Coastal Carolina offense was led by freshman Sierra Livesay who tallied 12 kills on 23 total attacks, committing only two attack errors. The defense was led by Amanda Russell who registered 11 digs and really stepped up in the absence of senior middle blocker Jill Nyhof. Chelsy Kimes added 10 kills and Meagan Tracey guided the team with 32 assists. Sophomore Erika Lightsey got her first start of the season and finished with two kills and four blocks.

The High Point offense was led by Megan Kaminskas, Megan Smith and Stephanie Wallin who each finished with seven kills. Libero Julie Hershkowitz tallied 12 digs and Kaminskas added five blocks on defense.

In set one, the Chants came out strong, going out to an early 6-3 lead. It looked like Coastal Carolina had set one taken care of, but High Point gradually came to within two at 20-18 after going on a late 5-1. The run forced the Chants to take a time out to talk things over. Coming off the timeout, Coastal Carolina went on a 5-1 run to take the first set and lead the match 1-0. Both Livesay and Kimes finished the set with five kills and Lightsey and Russell added two blocks a piece. On the High Point side, they had four players register three kills each.

The second set started out similar to the first, but after two early ties, Coastal Carolina took the lead and never looked back. With Megan Pollard on the service line, the Chants went on a 6-0 run to put them up 14-6. Down by two at 21-19, the Panthers tried to build a comeback, but Livesay could not be stopped and finished the set with five kills and no attack errors to the Chants in the set win.

In the third set, the Panthers took its first lead of the match at 11-10 after five ties. Down by as much as five at 21-16, Coastal Carolina slowly battled back off a 5-1 run to bring the score to 22-21 in favor of the Panthers. A Chant error put them back down by two, but a kill by Megan Bickford kept Coastal Carolina in the game and after three back-to-back High Point errors, the Chants took set three, sweeping High Point.

The Chanticleers return to action on the road at Charleston Southern on Tuesday, Oct. 27 at 6 p.m. while High Point returns home for a five-game homestand with the first match on Wednesday, Oct. 28 against Radford at 7 p.m.
