The Coastal Carolina University women's tennis team wrapped up fall play at the UNCW Fall Invitational in Wilmington, N.C., Oct. 30-31. The event was planned for three days but rain wreaked havoc on the schedule of matches, forcing the Chanticleers to only play two days.

Senior Kim Webb had a solid tournament for the Chants, winning both of her singles matches and going 2-1 in doubles play with teammate Maria Camberos. Webb defeated Kayla Schwenk of UNC Wilmington in a single set, 6-4, before rain hit. She then followed it up with a three-set victory over Radford's Mia Drobnjak. In doubles, the duo defeated pairs from UNC Wilmington and Charlotte before falling to the doubles pair from UNC Greensboro in the championship match of the Flight A Doubles.

Freshmen Alex Derungs and Shelby Bates each went 1-1 in singles and combined to also go 2-1 in doubles. The all-freshman duo competed in Flight B singles and defeated North Carolina Central and UNC Wilmington before dropping the championship match to Mercer.

"Our team performed pretty well last weekend," Head Coach Jody Davis said. "Kim Webb had an outstanding performance on the singles court and really stepped up and played some good tennis. Our goal now is to continue training and stepping up our conditioning this off-season. Our team has worked hard and hopefully we will put ourselves in position to compete for a Championship in the Spring".

The Chanticleers will now look to the spring, when they will open the 2010 season against Western Carolina and North Carolina A&T on Sat., Jan. 30 at Billy Nichols Tennis Center in Conway, S.C.
