Coastal Carolina University men's basketball redshirt-junior Chad Gray has been named the Coastal Carolina Athletic Department Athlete of the Week for the week of Dec. 21.

Gray shot a sizzling 84 percent from the floor in two Coastal Carolina wins this past week. Gray averaged 27.5 points per game in helping the Chants get to 10-2 on the year. In the Georgia Southern win Dec. 15, Gray was 10-for-12 from the field for 24 points. He also had four rebounds and was 3-of-4 from the free-throw line in 28 minutes. In the Savannah State win Dec. 19, Gray had a career-high 31 points, going 11-of-13 from the field and 9-of-11 from the free-throw line. He almost made it a double-double with nine rebounds. Gray had Coastal's first 30-plus point game since Joseph Harris scored 32 at UNC Asheville Feb. 21, 2009. On the season, Gray is averaging 15.9 points and 5.3 rebounds a contest.

Gray and the rest of the Chants will be back in action Sunday, Dec. 27 against Cornell College. Tip off is at 7 p.m.
