Box Score Women's Basketball Falls 77-44 to Liberty

CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina University women's basketball team (14-11, 6-6 Big South) fell 77-44 to Liberty (17-7, 11-0 Big South) Saturday, Feb. 21 at Kimbel Arena. Liberty had five players in double figures and outscored the Chanticleers 32-6 in the paint, while sophomore Sydnei Moss was the only Chant to hit double digits with 12 points.
Liberty's Megan Frazee had a game-high 17 points while teammates Avery Warley (11), Amber Mays (11), Rebecca Lightfoot (10) and Rachel McCleod (13) joined in double figures.
Coastal Carolina fell behind in the opening minutes of the game as Liberty built an 8-0 lead before sophomore Kate Jasinski drained a three-pointer to put the Chants on the board at the 16-minute mark. A 12-2 run by the Lady Flames stretched their lead to 20-5 with 10 minutes left in the half. Coastal Carolina found itself behind by as much as 20 in the opening frame, but trimmed the deficit to 18 at 39-21 to head into the break. The Chants were outhustled under the basket getting outrebounded 18-5 in the first 20 minutes and shooting 27.3 percent from the field. Liberty's Megan Frazee scored 12 points in the half leading her squad to a 68.4 percent shooting percentage at the break.
Coastal Carolina started the second half quickly earning the first six points and cut Liberty's lead to 12 at 39-27 at the 18-minute mark. The Lady Flames responded with an 11-2 run that opened the game up to 50-29 with just 15 minutes left to play. The Chanticleers hit three triples down the stretch but would not come any closer as the Lady Flames built their largest lead of 35 in the closing minutes and finished the game with a 77-44 advantage as time expired.
Coastal Carolina had a season-low 12 rebounds, while Liberty pulled down 40 boards on the afternoon. The Chants went 8-for-11 to shoot 72.7 percent at the charity stripe, while Liberty was 18-of-24 at the foul line, shooting 75.0 percent at the line.
The Chanticleers resume play Monday, Feb. 23 when they host Radford at 7 p.m., at Kimbel Arena. The Lady Flames will be in action at the same time as they head to Charleston Southern.
