Women's Track & Field Set to Host Chanticleer Classic

COASTAL CAROLINA SET TO HOST CHANTICLEER CLASSIC: The Chanticleers will enter week five of the outdoor season, as the team hosts the 2009 version of the Chanticleer Classic. The Chanticleers will welcome four teams to the event in The Citadel, Morris College, UNC Wilmington and Ursuline.
SLATED TO COMPETE: Head Coach Alan Connie will send enter 27 athletes in the meet, with several participants entering the meet as the top seeds in their respective events. Deb Mattern (javelin) Brittany Connor (hammer/discus), Kierra Gabe (high jump), Joyce Curtin (1,500m), Amber White (200m), Darialle Henley (100-meter dash) and LeAuna Sistrunk (100-meter hurdles) hold the top marks in their respetive events.
4x100-METER RELAY HITS NCAA REGIONAL MARK: The 4x100-meter relay squad highlighted a solid weekend for the team at the Florida Relays. The sprinting quartet of Ikeiylah Brown, Darriale Henley, LeAuna Sistrunk and Amber White qualified for NCAA East Regionals with a blazing time of 45.60, eclipsing the qualifying time by 2.10 seconds, and take the top spot in the Big South timetable. The time was also good to break the school record, as the team finished as the third best collegiate time.
4x4000-METER RELAY SETS HIGH MARKS: Coastal Carolina excelled in another relay on the day, as the foursome of Vondeeshia Humphries, Thomasena Smith, Santresa Jamison and Brown improved on their Big South leading time in the 4x400-meter relay with a 3:44.70 to take second place in the section.
CONNOR TURNS IN SOLID WEEKEND IN DURHAM: Sophomore Brittany Connor followed up her 10th place finish in the hammer with a toss of 144'8” (44.10m) in the discus to take over the Big South lead in the event. On Friday, Connor placed 10th with a toss of 158'9' (48.45m).
POTTS HIGHLIGHTS DAY ONE IN DURHAM: Day one in Durham was highlighted by Ashley Potts' performance in the 400-meter hurdles. The freshman won her section with a time of 1:04.27, and duplicated the time in the finals to take seventh overall.
