CONWAY, S.C. - The Coastal Carolina University men's basketball team and Head Coach Cliff Ellis have signed Chris Evans (Chesapeake, Va./Petersburg) to a Financial Aid Agreement to the University, it was announced today.
Evans, a 6-7 forward, averaged 15.3 points, 8.4 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game for Petersburg High School in Petersburg, Va., his senior season. He was named to the All-State Second Team by the Associated Press in 2008-09. Evans also was named First Team All-Metro by the Richmond Times-Dispatch and was rated the 73rd-best shooting guard in the country in his class by ESPN.com and Scouts, Inc. He helped the Crimson Waves to a 30-1 record and a berth in the Group AAA state semifinals in 2008-09. Evans played AAU Basketball for the Petersburg Elite. He also was on the Honor Roll at Petersburg. Evans chose Coastal Carolina over UCF, Kent State and Oklahoma State.
"Chris can play multiple positions," Ellis said. "That's what makes him attractive. He can play inside and on the wing. Chris possesses the ability to rebound and is a hard to guard guy. He's a tremendous offensive rebounder and has the ability to shoot the three."
Evans joins Mike Davis (Brooklyn, N.Y./Brooklyn Academy (Seton Hall)), Kierre Greenwood (Cincinnati, Ohio/Winton Woods (New Creations School (Ind.)), Devin Miller (Chicago, Ill./Martin Luther King (Kennedy-King College)), Tre Lee (Hampton, Va./Bethel) and Danny Nieman (Kannapolis, N.C./Concord (Hargave Military)) in the Coastal Carolina recruiting class for the 2009-10 academic year.
