Koenig Named Associate Head Coach For Men’s Basketball

CONWAY, S.C. – Tim Koenig has joined the Coastal Carolina men's basketball coaching staff as associate head coach, Chanticleers head coach Justin Gray announced on Friday. Koenig spent the past seven seasons as the head coach at Fairmont State, leading the program to six NCAA Division II Tournament appearances.

"Tim is a proven winner who understands what it takes to build and sustain success," Gray said. "He's been a head coach who's developed players at a high level, and whose teams have consistently competed for championships. He brings toughness, experience, and a competitive edge that aligns with how we want to play. Tim is a great fit for our culture and what we're building at Coastal."

During his seven-season tenure, Koenig compiled a 159-47 (.771) record, ranking fourth all-time at Fairmont State in total wins and second in career winning percentage. He led the Falcons to a pair of Mountain East Conference (MEC) Tournament titles (2021, 2025) and coached 19 all-conference selections.

Koenig arrived at Fairmont State prior to the 2019-20 season and led the Falcons to a 23-7 overall record and the No. 5 seed in the NCAA Division II Atlantic Regional. The 23 wins also tied the program record for most victories by a first-year head coach.

The Falcons won 20 or more games in six of Koenig's seven seasons, including 26 victories this past year. Fairmont State led the MEC in field goal percentage defense three times under Koenig and topped the league in three-point field goal percentage and free throw percentage twice.

Prior to taking the reins at Fairmont State, Koenig spent six seasons as the head coach at Notre Dame College in South Euclid, Ohio. He was named the 2019 MEC Coach of the Year after leading Notre Dame College to its first conference tournament title and the program's first NCAA Tournament appearance.

Koenig coached the only Division II National Player of the Year in Notre Dame College history, Will Vorhees, in his final season in South Euclid. Overall, he coached two All-Americans, 11 All-MEC selections and five all-region honorees.

Koenig began his collegiate coaching career at Notre Dame College as a graduate assistant from 2006-08, then was promoted to assistant coach, a role he held from 2009-11.

As a collegiate student-athlete, Koenig played baseball and basketball at Case Western Reserve University. He graduated in 2006 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in biology. He and his wife, Nicole, are the parents of three children.
