Final Stats

HIGH POINT, N.C.-After a High Point 15-0 run in the first half, Coastal Carolina University women's basketball team could not recover as they fell to High Point 79-39 on Monday, January 4 in the Millis Center. The Chants fell to 9-5 overall and 0-2 in the Big South, while High Point improved to 9-6 and 2-0 in the league.

Coastal played the first minutes of the game with promise, starting the game with a 6-2 lead. High Point answered, scoring two straight baskets, tying the game up 6-6 at 15:23. A Jurica Hargraves three-pointer at 13:01 sparked a 15-0 run to make the game 21-8. Sophomore Olivia Irick tried to kick-start things back up for the Chants with a triple at 8:51, 21-11. The Panthers added to their lead as they forced turnovers, never allowing the Chanticleers to close the gap less than 10 points. High Point's stingy defense prevented Coastal from scoring a field goal for the final five minutes of the half to go into the locker room up 45-20. High Point forced 13 turnovers, picking up 14 points off of the fast break. The Chanticleers were held to shooting just 30.4 percent (7-of-23) from the field in the first half. Junior

Sydnei Moss opened the second half scoring a jumper, but things did not get better for Coastal as High Point then went on a 10-2 run. Irick gave some light as she hit a jumper at 8:13, started a 7-2 run, putting the game at 71-34. The High Point lead was too much for Coastal as they traded baskets until the end of the game.

The Panthers had three players register double-figures, led by Erin Reynolds who had 15 while Amy Dodd and Shamia Brown both finished the game with 13. The Panthers shot 49.2 percent (31 of 63) from the field and with their bench scoring 45 points. High Point out rebounded Coastal 45-32.

Irick led the Chants with 10 points and four rebounds. Coastal struggled as they shot 25.5 percent (13-of-51) and 66.7 (10-of-15) percent from the free throw line.

The Chanticleers will return to Kimbel Arena for a four game home-stand, starting with Charleston Southern on Saturday, January 9.
