ELON, N.C. - The Coastal Carolina men's tennis team featured four champions in their respective flights to highlight competition at the Elon Invitational from the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center.
Freshman Leo Christofides won the individual title in the single C flight after downing Andrew Prince of Elon in straight sets 6-4, 6-0. Christofides, playing alongside Yusuke Kusuda, also won the title in the backdraw of the B-2 doubles flight after downing Nathan Crocker and Kenneth Mooney of Presbyterian 8-4.
Coastal won its second doubles title in the backdraw of the A-1 flight when Alex Funkhouser and Peter Billingham earned an 8-5 victory over Siim Tuus and Giancarlo Lemmi of Liberty in the title match.
"I was hoping for some stronger results, but we had a couple of guys tweak some nagging injuries which shortened their tournament," Coastal Carolina head coach Chris Powers said. "However, I was pleased with our intensity in all of the finals. We have a quick turnaround for the regionals next weekend, and I hope we can lick our wounds and play well when it matters most."
Coastal returns to action Oct. 14-17 to take part in the ITA Regionals from either Durham, N.C., or Chapel Hill, N.C.
