CONWAY, S.C. - The Coastal Carolina University volleyball team dropped a grueling 3-2 (14-25, 28-26, 25-20, 12-25, 13-15) match to Campbell University on Tuesday, Oct. 19 at Kimbel Arena. The Chanticleers fall to 11-12 overall while the Camels improve to 9-14.

The Camels started the match strong, taking the first set 25-14. Campbell took an early 3-1 lead and at 6-3, the Camels went on an 11-3 run to put them ahead at 17-6. The lead would be too much for the Chants as Campbell won the first set. Kimes recorded four kills and Gill tallied eight digs in the set.

The second set saw 13 ties and seven lead changes before Coastal tied the match at 1-all with a 28-26 set win. Both teams went back and forth and at 12-9, Campbell went on a 5-0 run to go ahead 14-12. Coastal battled back and took the final lead at 27-26 with a kill by Amanda Russell. Kimes ended the set with her eighth kill of the set. Bailey posted two blocks and Lightsey added four kills to her total.

Coastal took the momentum from the second set into the third with a 25-20 set win to take a 2-1 match lead. The third set saw eight ties and three lead changes with the final tie at 12-all. Following the tie, Coastal went on a 5-2 run to take the lead for the final time, but Campbell did not go away easily as the Camels came within one at 20-19. The Chants finished the set on 5-1 run. Kimes added five kills and Bailey posted another two blocks.

The Camels went out to a 16-9 lead in the fourth set and never looked back as Campbell tied the set at 2-all. Campbell's Jordan Reaves recorded nine kills in the 25-12 set win.

In the deciding fifth set, the Chants took an early 3-1 lead, but eight ties and three lead changes kept it close. At 13-all, Campbell's Caitlin Bendy end the match with back-to-back kills. Sierra Livesay tallied four kills in the set, but it was not enough as Coastal fell 15-13.

The Chanticleers return to the court on Saturday, Oct. 23 at 12 p.m. to face UNC Asheville. In the first meeting this season, the Chants lost in a tough 3-2 match.
