Final Stats

CHAPEL HILL, N.C.- The Coastal Carolina women's basketball team fell to No. 14 North Carolina in front of 2,309 fans at the famed Carmichael Arena by a final of 93-37 on Friday, Nov. 19.

The loss drops the Chants to 2-1 on the young season as the Tar Heels move to a 3-0 record.

North Carolina jumped out to an early 16 point lead before the Chants were able to get points on the board. North Carolina's Chay Shegog and Italee Lucas combined for 12 points during the early run. Once Coastal broke the North Carolina scoring streak, the team gained confidence and played evenly with the nationally ranked Tar Heels for the final five minutes of the first half.

North Carolina used a 19-6 run in the first six minutes of the second half to put the game out of reach for the Chanticleers.

As in each of the two previous games this season, the Chants forced at least 15 turnovers with their scrappy defense. With this defensive pressure looming, North Carolina was held without a field goal in the last 4:45 of the first half.

Similar to the Southern Virginia contest, the Chanticleer bench came through with 16 points as each player on the Coastal Carolina roster saw playing time.

Olivia Irick led the Chanticleers in scoring for the second time this seasonn with nine points including a deep three point shot in the second half. Sydnei Moss pulled down a team leading nine rebounds in the contest to go along with her six points from the field.

North Carolina's Lucas led all scores and three Tar Heels in double figures with 15 points while Jessica Breland posted a double-double with 13 points and 13 rebounds.

The Chants wrap up their current three game road trip on Sunday, Nov. 21 at Elon. The tip-off against the Phoenix is set for 2 p.m.
