Women's Basketball Dropped by Presbyterian, 56-46

CLINTON, S.C.-Coastal Carolina University women's basketball was dropped by Presbyterian 56-46 on Monday, February 1 in Templeton Arena. The Chanticleers fell to 12-8 overall and 3-5 in the Big South, as the Blue Hose improved to 3-17 and a 2-6 league mark. Coastal has struggled on the road this season, posting a 2-7 record.

From the beginning of the game the Blue Hose took control, taking an early 4-0 lead and holding the Chanticleers scoreless for nearly five minutes. Presbyterian continued to pull away by as much as five, 13-8, with 8:01 left in the half. The Chants fought back, despite shooting poorly, as they would take the lead for the first time off of a shot-clock buzzer beating triple from Lauren Grochowski with 6:46 left in the half. The lead didn't last long as the Blue Hose shut down the Chants until the final seconds of the first stanza, holding the lead 19-17 at halftime. Coastal ended the half shooting just 24.1 percent (7-for-29) from the field while Presbyterian shot 33.3 percent (8-for-24).

Junior Sydnei Moss and Grochowski took control out of the locker room; scoring 15 out of the 16 points in the first nine minutes of the half, helping the Chants get the lead 31-27 with 12:21 left in the game. Presbyterian did not stay down long as an Amanda Mills shot from beyond the arc started a 16-3 Presbyterian run, giving them a lead 43-34 lead at 5:03 left in the second stanza. In the final minutes, Presbyterian went up by as much as 13 with 2:20 remaining in the game. Despite Coastal's efforts for a come back at 1:24 down six 50-44, PC clinched the game, going 6-for-8 in the final minutes from the charity stripe.

Presbyterian shot 39.1 percent (18-for-46) from the field, with 26 points coming from in the paint. Leading the Blue Hose was Dria David, who finished with 12 points while Mariah Pietrowski added 11 points. Presbyterian dominated the boards, 44-33, over Coastal.

Coastal only shot 30.5 percent from the floor (18-for-59). Moss posted her fourth double-double of the season with a game-high 15 points and 10 rebounds while Grochowski followed scoring a career-high 13 points. The Chanticleers were without senior Amanda Stull.

Coastal will return to Kimbel Arena to take on High Point on Saturday, February 6 in Kimbel Arena at 2 p.m.
