CONWAY, S.C. - The 13th-ranked Coastal Carolina University baseball team (24-5) hit the 20-run plateau for the second time in three games in a 20-1 win over UNC Wilmington (15-13) April 6 in Conway, S.C.
The game was scoreless for two innings, but the Chants exploded for five runs in the third. Sophomore Steve Davis singled up the middle to open the frame. He moved to second on a wild pitch and moved to third on a sacrifice bunt from junior Rico Noel. Junior Scott Woodward was then hit by a pitch and stole second, putting two runners in scoring position. Senior Jose Iglesias brought both runs in with a single to the gap in left field. Redshirt-sophomore Tommy La Stella then singled to second base and senior Adam Rice followed with a double to left, scoring Iglesias. Sophomore Daniel Bowman brought in the final two runs of the inning with a single up the middle.
Coastal kept on scoring in the fourth, bringing in four runs. Noel was hit by a pitch to open the frame. Woodward then sacrificed Noel over, but reached on a throwing error by Cody Stanley, scoring a run. Iglesias brought in Woodward with a single through the right side.
