Chants Cruise Past Presbyterian, Remain Perfect In Big South

CONWAY, S.C. - Chad Gray scored 19 points and grabbed five rebounds to lead Coastal Carolina to its 14th straight win with a 60-42 victory over Presbyterian Saturday afternoon from Kimbel Arena.

The victory also gave the Chants their 11th straight Big South Conference victory to tie the school record for the most consecutive conference victories. Both the 1989-90 and 1990-91 teams won 11 straight league games during their respective seasons. Coastal has also won 15 straight regular season homes games dating back to last season.

Gray has scored in double figures in five straight games and is averaging 15.0 points and 7.4 rebounds per game against Big South opponents.

Desmond Holloway returned to the Chanticleer lineup after missing Thursday's game and finished with 15 points and has scored in double figures in every game in which he has appeared.

Kierre Greenwood dished out a career-high nine assists to go along with seven rebounds, while Sam McLaurin posted a career-best six blocked shots.

Khalid Mutakabbir led Presbyterian with 16 points and nine rebounds and was 2-for-4 from three-point range.

Coastal Carolina (16-2, 7-0) held Presbyterian to just 31.5 percent shooting from the field and 20.0 percent from three-point range in limiting the Blue Hoes to a season-low 42 points. Presbyterian entered the contest third in the Big South in field goal percentage (.461) and first in three-point field goal percentage (.416).

The Chanticleers built their largest lead of the first half on a free throw from McLaurin to go up 27-13 with 1:33 left on the clock. The Blue Hose closed the half on a 5-0 run that was capped by a three-pointer at the buzzer by Mutakabbir to cut the Coastal deficit to 27-18 at halftime.

Gray scored the first five points of the second half in the opening 1:44 to push the Coastal lead back to 14 points at 32-18, but Presbyterian used a 7-0 run over the next two minutes to pull within seven points at 32-25.

Coastal answered with a 10-0 run thereafter to up its lead to 42-25 following a pair of free throws from Anthony Raffa. The Chants would go on to lead by as many as 21 points.

Coastal returns to action Thursday night at 7 p.m. when the Chanticleers travel to Asheville, N.C., to take on UNC Asheville from the Justice Center.
